I am a firm believer in the different learning styles. For example, are you one of those people who have to read something for yourself instead of having someone read to you? If so, are probably more of a visual, auditory or possibly student. When you are trying to commit something to memory, you're spinning? Kinesthetic learner. But these are very simple examples, and no where near complete, but only an illustration. Everyone learns differently.

Children and girls have different learning styles. Not that I can have similarities, but overall, boys and girls learn differently. Well, do not most people know anyway? Our schools certainly have not demonstrated that they understand it. We know that men and women think differently and excel in different areas, so it makes no sense to think the same for boys and girls?

The site, Children and Schools: Improving Health, Education and Welfare of Children </ a>, has a wealth of information for parents of children. I encourage you to visit and read some articles, if you are a parent of a child. Some of the most interesting is the fact that the increased level of testosterone in make children more aggressive, competitive, assertive, self-sufficient and that girls, girls hear better and teachers may need to use more voices high to reach children; neurotransmitters in the brain differ between boys and girls, showing a clear difference in how children process information. Children do not do so well in reading as girls, but excel in mathematics and other space-type skills.

So, even this brief list, no sense that if children were taught to their strengths that could be highlighted at a rate equal to the girls? Believe me, as mother of the children, I would know that my children have equal opportunities to achieve their best in school. However, I know that my kids are bored. They do not want to read Sarah, Plain and Tall </ span>, but they love Diary of a Wimpy Kid /> <span. They love study about dinosaurs, and learning about pirates of old. Things that are exciting! My oldest scored in the top 5% of 4th graders in the nation in mathematics achievement in a particular test, but simply average in reading. Give <span = "font style-weight: bold;"> read </ span problems> math </ span>, and that can make Lickety split.

One way to teach children to their strengths is the use of educational technology. Using computers and software in the classroom. Allowing the evidence on the computer, creating book reports using PowerPoint presentations, computer games to teach math concepts. Honestly, in this digital age I'm really surprised that not more common. Our schools are using textbooks that resemble those of I </ span> used as a child. Give them a CD-ROM for use at school or at home, with animations, video or real. Let's write science reports in the program Discovery Channel, Man vs. Wild, or an exit. I can not tell you how much my children have learned about animals and the outdoors of Bear Grylls, and the energy and momentum of Jonathan Goodwin. And what of the Planet Earth? In TLC </ a>, there are many things learn about the company, the kitchen, and even physical. I know that these things are going to remember for years! It's exciting and interesting for them.

Use learning games online is a great tool for children of all ages. They are fun and can not even look like they're "learning". During years I have played online games with my children. My 3 year old loves alphabet games, counting games, and even spelling games. My oldest daughter, 10 years, still likes to go to the sites and build virtual robots or construction, the creation of cities, or even dinosaurs. Our 8-year-old would virtual love to do puzzles. They are all learning! The concepts presented are things like same / different, big / small, mirror images, different types of environments, among many others.

I just got really frustrated that the U.S. educational system is so far from the world. We do not use the wonderful resources available to us. Okay, I know not every classroom has a computer for each child. However, there is usually a computer lab available, some students have their own, and most teachers have at least one computer in their bedrooms. Finding new and fun ways to use technology that is available. Be flexible about how you will accept work which must be oriented inward I have heard from teachers and again, "but it is not fair to let a student to do their job one way and others another way. "If you are allowing it fits your needs, more specifically, how is that not fair? Parents do not treat their children all the same. Employees are not treated all themselves, some make more money for one reason or another. There is no fair or not fair </ span>. Only equal opportunities, but different. What works best for each individual.

How can we tolerate the fact that our boys are being allowed to lag behind when the solution is so easy to achieve?
